Chapter 3: Justice Served

The legal battle that followed was swift and brutal. With 112 days of high-definition surveillance footage, Elena’s detailed logbook, and the audio files, the defense didn't stand a chance.

I filed for an emergency divorce, which the judge granted in record time due to the criminal circumstances. Vanessa tried to fight for a settlement, demanding half of my assets. The judge laughed her out of the courtroom. Thanks to the ironclad prenuptial agreement and the grand larceny charges against her, she left with absolutely nothing.

During the trial, Elena took the stand. Despite the scar still healing above her eyebrow, she stood tall and spoke with a quiet, unwavering strength. She detailed how Vanessa had threatened to deport her family and harm my mother further if she ever told me the truth. There wasn't a dry eye in the jury.

Vanessa and Mark were convicted on multiple felony counts: severe elder abuse, conspiracy to commit grand larceny, and aggravated assault. The judge showed no mercy, sentencing Vanessa to twelve years in a maximum-security prison and Mark to ten.

As Vanessa was led away to serve her time, I finally felt the suffocating weight lift off my shoulders. Justice had been served.
