Government officials quietly left through side exits.
The chairman of the charitable foundation stepped onto the stage.
"Effective immediately, Mr. Santiago Rivas has been removed from every position within this organization."
Across the ballroom, camera flashes exploded.
Santiago reached for a microphone.
