Chapter 3: The Company Was Never His

Margaret reached for one final folder.
Blue.
Marked:
FOUNDING DOCUMENTS
"Ethan's attorney stated Mr. Bennett built Bennett Technologies alone."
She smiled politely.
"That statement is incomplete."
The courtroom clerk distributed copies.
Articles of incorporation.
Patent registrations.
Bank transfers.
Original shareholder agreements.
Judge Whitmore flipped to the signature page.
Claire Bennett.
Founder.
Original inventor.
Seventy-two percent ownership.
Margaret spoke clearly.
"Mrs. Bennett designed the company's first software platform before their marriage."
"She funded the startup using money inherited from her late parents."
"Mr. Bennett was hired as Chief Executive Officer after the company was formed."
The courtroom erupted with whispers.
Ethan's face drained of color.
His mistress looked at him.
"You told me you started the company."
He couldn't answer.
Because every document proved otherwise.
Margaret delivered the final sentence.
