Chapter 4: The Stranger Speaks

A silver pickup truck pulled into the hospital parking lot.
An older man stepped out carrying a worn leather folder.
"I've been looking for you for twenty-eight years," he said quietly.
"My name is Daniel."
He looked directly at me.
"I'm your biological father."
Detectives questioned him for hours.
He admitted placing the envelope in the dumpster after anonymously receiving a message telling him where to find me.
He had followed my mother's family for years from a distance but never interrupted my life.
Until someone texted him one sentence.
"Your granddaughter needs you today."
He showed detectives the message.
It came from a prepaid phone.
They traced the purchase to a nearby convenience store.
Security footage revealed the buyer.
Emma's babysitter.
When questioned, the babysitter confessed.
She had witnessed Vanessa drug Lily that morning.
Too frightened to confront the family herself, she secretly contacted Daniel using an old address she found among my mother's stored documents.
She hoped he could stop what was happening.
